Vehicles in German City Found Smeared with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Police reported they were alerted by a resident who noticed a vehicle in Hanau marked with red-colored substance

Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.

Police report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then discovered many other smeared cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Officials state initial examinations indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.

"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.

Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the public for information.

A high-ranking political figure commented the vandalism rendered him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.

"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine victims by a shooter focusing on individuals of migrant background in 2020.
